Blaze Energy builds a compact retrofit system that lets shipowners run existing engines on multiple alternative fuels, including ammonia, methanol and LNG.
Blaze is tackling shipowners’ uncertainty over future fuel availability, regulation and long-lived vessels by converting ammonia, methanol or LNG into hydrogen-rich blends onboard, so existing engines can use multiple fuels instead of locking into one. Its $6.5 million seed round is aimed at marine-engine testing and a 2027 Lomar vessel pilot, with a planned 2028 commercial retrofit launch; the company says this could offer a roughly 20-times-lower-cost path than replacing ships.
