He completed bachelor's and master's degrees in mechanical engineering at Imperial College London and won the grand prize at a 2016 NASA space-design competition, as well as awards at the Oxford Biohackathon and a European Mars-exploration competition.

He entered KAIST's Department of Mathematical Sciences as a presidential scholarship student and graduated early in two years in the top 3% of his class.
