R1 Therapeutics develops first-in-class kidney-disease medicines, beginning with AP306 for people on dialysis who have chronic-kidney-disease-related hyperphosphatemia.
Hyperphosphatemia is a serious, poorly controlled complication of chronic kidney disease in dialysis patients: existing phosphate binders can require 9–15 pills per day, are poorly tolerated, and more than 70% of U.S. dialysis patients fail to achieve normal phosphate levels. R1 has expanded its Series A to $80.5 million to advance AP306, which blocks active phosphate transport through three gut transporters, while its global Phase 2b trial is underway with topline data expected in the first half of 2027.
