Varda is trying to make microgravity a repeatable manufacturing environment for pharmaceutical ingredients that crystallize differently in space, while its recoverable capsules also provide a real-world hypersonic testbed. The company has deployed six orbital missions and raised $250 million in its Series D, bringing total funding to $598 million, as it bets that commercial pharmaceutical work will eventually overtake its currently government-heavy payload mix.
